Does monsoon set in with a happy-sad mood for you too? While rain brings in a welcome respite from the summer heat, this is also a time when most children suffer from low immunity. Our little ones are more susceptible to airborne and waterborne diseases like the common cold, viral fever, diarrhea, jaundice & others.
Every child deserves to enjoy the monsoon weather which they will not be able to if they are unhealthy and fall sick. So, to avoid any infections or skin concerns here are some basic preventions.
1. Wash Your Hands: An uncomplicated way to improve immunity and keep the infections at bay is to make kids learn how to wash their hands frequently.
2. Well Cooked Food: Prevent food poisoning by giving your child well-cooked meals. Throw away stale food or anything that emits a strange odor. Do not let your kid eat raw sprouts or Veggies during Monsoon. Steam them first.

3. Vitamin-C rich foods in Diet: Vitamin C helps in maintaining the space between the cells in the body and prevents infections from getting into the body. Make sure that your kids consume a lot of fruits rich in Vitamin C.
4. No juices in a kid’s diet:Make sure the vitamins required for the healthy growth of your child come from whole fruits and not juices. The juices and the ice which is used in the juices are likely to have lots of germs and therefore might cause infections.
5. Herbs to Help: Include Ginger, Garlic, Cinnamon, Peppercorn, Cloves, Nutmeg, Coriander in Kid’s meal every day.
6. Drink boiled water: Contaminated water is the source of infecting germs especially during Monsoon. So, let your child drink clean and germ-free water. Add Tulsi every once in 4 days especially during season transition.
7. Avoid junk food: food cooked at restaurants or packaged food is not good for a kid’s digestion and overall health so, it is best to avoid such food because the food they serve might cause diarrhea and vomiting during the rainy season.

Infections that children get during the monsoons are viral infections which spread fast from one kid to another. It is, therefore, the responsibility of every parent to keep their children away from other children if they happen to be sick.
One of the best ways to bond with your child is by making him a delicious snack during monsoons. I am recommending one of the best dishes loved by my son which is extremely nutritious and easy to make – Moong Dal Pakora
● 2 Cups of Split Yellow Moong Dal
● Whole Coriander
● 1-2 tsp of Whole Black Pepper
● Ginger paste
● Green chili paste
● Wash and Soak the Split Yellow Moong Dal for 4-5 hours.
● Lightly crush the Whole Coriander in a mortar and pestle
● In a blender add in the soaked Moong Dal with little or no water.
● Grind it to a coarser texture. Not a Paste
● Now add the crushed coriander, black pepper, ginger paste, chili paste, and salt.
● Mix everything and in a deep wok keep the oil for frying.
● Once the oil is hot, switch the stove to medium and drop half of the lemon size batter in the oil.
● Take the batter in your fingers, and slide it using the thumb.
● The frying must be on medium, or else the dal will not be cooked properly and you will get raw or uncooked pakoras.
● Turn in between for 2-3 times, until the pakoras are cooked from all the sides and are golden brown.
Serve it hot with green coriander chutney, a perfectly tasty and healthy snack for kids during monsoon.
